DOWNTOWN
RENOVATION
Wichita
Teen Center
The
use of flexible gas piping for renovation and retrofit
provides a quick and easy approach that is as simple
as pulling electrical wiring. When the building under
renovation is over 100 years old, TracPipe can offer
enhanced safety for the pipe fitter and for the neighborhood.

All
the furnaces being retrofitted into the Teen Center
in Wichita, KS are located in the attic of the 100-year-old
building. If steel pipe had been used for this renovation,
the code would have required welded joints and the construction
crew feared that a fire could easily be started in the
wooden construction of the attic.

The combined loads of the twelve furnaces pushed this
installation into the range where the Wichita gas utility
was willing to provide 5-psi elevated pressure. This
allowed the plumbing and heating contractor to use ½",
¾", and 1-inch sizes of TracPipe.
There
were three regulator stations located throughout the
attic. This is the method for installing elevated systems
with corrugated stainless steel tubing to utilize the
full capacity of each regulator.
